Update Aptil 14, 2009................Well we didn't have any luck on our side at the national, but that sure turned around for the divisional!! We know we have a long year ahead of us so we are just going to continue to take it race by race and see what happens…I refuse to get myself all worked up again this season! It makes it so much less stressful. The start of the weekend was sure nice because we had serviced the car already last Sunday so there wasn't much to do but a few minor things. On Friday, in the first qualifying session, we were paired with Demke (who is just running phenomenal right now) and we ran a 5.38 @ 267MPH putting us behind Whiteley at #2. I don't know, but our car just loves the 5.38 number because we seem to run it a lot! In session 2, BIG SURPRISE, I ran another 5.38 @ 265MPH. On our last qualifying pass, we hazed the tires just a little bit but still ran a 5.42 which we will take any day. On Saturday, we raced Cody Perkins, who always is a tough competitor, and we knew we would have to be on the ball. We both had identical reaction times and we ended up running a 5.44 to Cody's 5.52 pairing us with Kevin Wayman in 2nd round. This round was pretty interesting. I have to say I got lucky. My car got really out of the groove and my light wasn't the greatest, but our 5.45 was enough to get us to another final this year and we knew it would be a big one. Whiteley had been running amazing all weekend long. The man was in a league of his own just running 30's after 30's. We just decided to go for it and I am not sure that our car liked that too much! We left about the same time and he just started to pull away. Meanwhile, here I am in the other lane all over the place trying to keep my foot in it and stay in the groove, because we all know I am not going to give up. My jaw just about hit the floor when I saw his car go silent. Apparently, both of our crews were dumbfounded on the starting line because we couldn't figure out why we won! No one knew what happened! But of course, when it sank in we were all SO happy, we couldn't believe it. That final round was pure luck on our side, no doubt about it! I do want to mention my sponsors who have been really good to me this year: Mundie's Towing, Lordco Auto Parts, United Petroleum, and Kendall Motor Oil. You guys are awesome! I am so stoked for Mission because it is always a fun race to go to and not to mention being close to home is always nice. We will just have to wait and see!
best run in 2008 5.30
