Tucson Divisional 2010

March 31, 2010

To say that this last weekend was eventful, that would be a big understatement. This new car is certainly giving us a “run for our money”! But we still had a lot of fun! I have to say it was really nice to get away from this nasty, northwest weather and enjoy some blue skies for a change! It’s always fun to see everyone again after that long break in between Pomona and now. Each run this weekend has given me a ton of stuff to get done before Las Vegas and its stressing me out but its all worth it, right? Well everything was just fine and dandy before the last qualifying pass. We were on an amazing run with a .906 60ft. time and just near the top end, we pushed a head gasket out. It caused quite the fireball! We ended up #3 which was alright but it still doesn’t beat being #1. In round 1, we beat Mike Austin which put us up against Chris Demke. He beat us in Pomona, so I was a little nervous before this race, so we juiced her up a bit! I never took any of these guys I raced lightly. Little did I know that we would both have quite the ride. Now I had no idea what was going on in his lane so I didn’t think I won at the end of the track. During the run, my clutch filter flew off and I got a little bit out of the groove and just started going all over the place. With the old car, I could really give her on the steering wheel and this car, yah, not so much. I had the baby on two wheels. According to the crew they could see daylight under the car. They all agreed that that was the most of the Mundie’s Towing decal that they wanted to see on any run! I think it’s safe to say that I needed to check my shorts after that one. Can you imagine if I had done something to the new car? I’d freak! Well I didn’t know what was going on in the other lane because apparently Demke was having a wild ride too and he crossed the center line. I guess a wins a win but thankfully we both kept our cars straight. We had good ol’ Whiteley in the final and certainly went out with a bang even though we lost. I’d say at about 1000 ft. two of the left body panels ripped off the car. We think that one of the fasteners came loose in the round before and we didn’t catch it. I can bet that we will be checking them now! The irony of the last run was that we JUST put the decals on right before the race and now we have to do it all over it again. No biggie. Despite all of the crazy things that happened this weekend, we still had a blast as usual. That’s the funny thing about this sport…it takes time, money and work but yet, we all still keep coming back! I love it! As always, congratulations to Jim Whiteley and Sean O’Bannon. You guys did an awesome job! The ride back to Canada made for an interesting trip. A couple of us were pretty sick and one of our guys threw his back out so needless to say we were ready to get home. I really have to thank my sponsors as always, Mundie’s Towing, United Petroleum, Lordco Auto Parts, NGK Spark Plugs, CC Racing, and ABC Recycling. My great crew was working hard as always. We missed Harry this weekend but Kyle did a great job of filling in for him. I cannot wait to go to Vegas…its one of my favorite tracks! Hopefully we can do as well as we did there last year! Well I have to get back to my second home (the shop) to get some of this stuff done or I’m going to be a stress case! We posted some videos to go with each of those crazy runs! Hope you enjoy! Well off to work I go…see you all in Vegas!
